When a couple is deeply in love with each other it is demonstrated in intimate, sweet communion, communication, and quality time. Despite the busy week, they set that special time for a togetherness that welcomes no one else! A pristine table is set for fine dining for two. The conversation is perfectly chosen to build, rebuild and enhance closeness. The Sabbath is that intimate time that God has set aside as a weekly "date night" that lasts the entire Saturday, not just for a few hours.
For thy Maker is thine husband; the Lord of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called.
Isaiah 54:5
In the Bible, Jesus is called our faithful husband and He provides an example for us to positively emulate in our homes. He told us that the Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. What does this mean? It is planned quality time set to communicate and commune with you; to revive, renew and restore you… to embolden and empower you to continue to have a consecrated and committed union. He has set this intimate table of superbly fine dining, not laden with wine and caviar, but with bronze and silver dishes laden with the golden apples of His Word. With His words, He kisses us with new beauty, the beauty of His ceaseless grace, amazing compassion, matchless power to overcome sin, and His uncontainable love. His character is poured into vessels now enlarged in capacity due to the sweet pause in time.
And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.
Mark 2:27, 28
Do not make the mistake of rushing, delaying, or neglecting this opportunity for fine dining with Jesus! There is nothing as important, no obligation or person so endearing nor any business deal so enticing that will trump the blessings that the Sabbath affords. Stop looking at your clock! no other time is more essential.
This time transforms your heart, equips you with wisdom and understanding, empowers you to withstand all temptations, and makes you even more winsome to the people closest to you.
But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work... Exodus 20:10
So drop everything and sit at His table set for individual... intimate...dining just for two! Recharge, Reset and be Renewed.
