7 Thanksgiving Encounters: 1) Being Grateful amid our Gethsemanes

How many times, as petulant children, do we have the attitude that God must give us everything we desire before we can serve Him fully and worship Him wholeheartedly?

When I first recommitted myself to the Lord, I thought that nothing could go wrong in my life! I was extremely elated and for weeks upon weeks, I was on cloud nine. I thought that nothing bad could happen to a born-again Christian and that whatever good things I asked for, God would give them to me. After all, He did say ask..., right?

"Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:" Matthew 7:7 KJV

"Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God." Philippians 4:6 KJV

Well, that euphoria wore off quickly, once the tests began to stalk me ever so often. Sometimes I was that petulant child and I had to learn the mature approach to "You have not because you ask not.. (James 4:2). God gives only the best gifts that will help us to be more like Him. He never promised to give that which is not bread. I learned not to cry over "spilled milk". So many people have it so much harder than myself. And while I know each person's experience is their own Gethsemane, there is ALWAYS someone with a worse experience.

"And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his works with rejoicing." Psalms 107:22, KJV

While every day we should wake up with a spirit of gratitude, in the United States, the Month of November is saturated with seasons of Thanksgiving. This Thursday people would have traveled millions of miles to be more intimate. Homes and hearts will be warm with the love of family, friends, loved ones, and hopefully God.

"... Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honor, and power, and might, be unto our God forever and ever. Amen." Revelation 7:12 KJV

At Narda Pella, we are excited to celebrate the season with you by sharing a mini-series entitled, Thanksgiving Encounters, featuring stories of beautiful, broken people with hearts filled with sunshine; and everyday places and things that have encouraged me in the difficult as well as the good times of life's Gethsemanes.
